If your kitchen is due for a remodel, it's likely that you will be looking at installing brand new kitchen cabinets. But if you've never gone through this process before, you might not be sure where to begin. To that end, here are several tips to keep in mind that will ensure you and your family get an excellent set of cabinets that will serve you well in the years to come.
Start with the Door
Kitchen cabinets come in different profiles and designs. The possible size of the cabinet will change based on what kind of door profile you select. Take a look at your plans for the rest of the kitchen remodel and figure out what is most important to you. If you want to get a set of cabinets that are a spot on match in color with the rest of the kitchen, know that this may narrow down the total number of options available to you. That's not a bad thing though, especially if you could use a little guidance while trying to figure out what you want.
The Look Isn't Everything
While the door profile and overall color of your new cabinets are obviously important, you also don't want to sacrifice function in the process. If your current cabinets are cluttered with items falling on top of each other, consider getting a cabinet that has multiple shelves or dividers inside of it, allowing you to easily organize your various household items. Sometimes homeowners get so caught up in going for the perfect look that they regret not getting a cabinet that is truly useful. Don't be that homeowner.
Location, Location, Location
Finally, talk to your contractor about the current location of your cabinets and see if there are options to move things around. In other words, just because your cabinets are currently above the stove doesn't mean the new ones have to be in the same spot.
Look at your entire kitchen layout and figure out if moving the cabinets to another location would improve your workflow while cooking. You can then install something else in the cabinets' old location or just use the free space to create a more open look throughout the room. In fact, moving your cabinet location may open up some new possibilities when it comes to choosing the overall size or door profile you prefer.
